Each tool converts in both directions, so a mailbox stored locally in one of these formats can be uploaded into an Office 365 account, and mail already in Office 365 can be pulled back down into the same file format on a single license.

Organizations moving to Office 365 from an existing mail platform, or extracting mail from Office 365 for archival or backup purposes, have typically relied on manual export processes or administrative tools built for broader tenant management rather than individual mailbox conversion. The category is designed specifically for mailbox conversion between local file formats and Microsoft 365, giving users a dedicated option for these migration and export tasks.
