Celebrating the Birth Centenary of Tabla Maestro Pandit Chatur Lal with an Extraordinary Line-up of India's Finest Classical Musicians

New Delhi | August 2026: As India marks 80 years of Independence, New Delhi is set to witness another edition of one of its most cherished musical traditions. Amar Jyoti – A Musical Tribute to the Unknown Soldiers returns for its 29th edition on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, at 7 pm at Kamani Auditorium, bringing together some of India's leading classical musicians for an evening dedicated to music, remembrance and national pride.

This year's concert carries added significance as it commemorates the Birth Centenary of tabla maestro Pandit Chatur Lal (1926–2026), one of India's pioneering cultural ambassadors who helped take the tabla and Indian classical music to audiences across the world.

In recognition of his enduring contribution, the Department of Posts, Government of India, released a commemorative postage stamp on 16 April 2026, marking the centenary of Pandit Chatur Lal and celebrating his legacy.
An evening of musical excellence

The 29th edition of Amar Jyoti will feature an exceptional line-up of artistes, including Padma Bhushan and Grammy Awardee Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, whose pioneering work on the Mohan Veena has earned him international acclaim.

He will be joined by Tantri Samrat Pandit Salil Bhatt, renowned for his mastery of the Satvik Veena, with internationally acclaimed tabla maestro Pranshu Chatur Lal accompanying them on percussion.

The evening will also feature celebrated vocalist brothers Pandit Ritesh Mishra and Pandit Rajnish Mishra, distinguished sons and disciples of Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan Mishra of the Banaras Gharana. Their performance will once again feature Pranshu Chatur Lal on tabla.

Together, the artistes will bring alive India's rich classical traditions while paying homage to the courage and sacrifice of the nation's Unknown Soldiers.

For nearly three decades, Amar Jyoti has remained a distinctive cultural initiative dedicated to honouring India's brave soldiers through the universal language of Indian classical music.

A tribute to music, memory and the nation

This year's Amar Jyoti is presented by the Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society in association with Indian Oil Corporation Limited, with support from Gas Authority of India Limited, Shalimar Corp Limited, HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), Oil India Limited, and hospitality partner Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport.
