Author and retired educator Elva Brandt-Schulman has released Hephzibah, a new book combining personal testimony, poetry and devotional prayers centered on faith, resilience and spiritual renewal.

Elva Brandt-Schulman, a retired educator and writer, has released Hephzibah: Testimonies, Poetry and Rogative Prayers, a 2024 collection that documents a life shaped by faith, personal trials and spiritual reflection. Published by UGC Publishing, the book brings together autobiographical narratives, poems and prayerful meditations drawn from decades of personal experience in the Dominican Republic and the United States. The work explores themes of loss, healing, perseverance and belief, offering readers a faith-based perspective on overcoming adversity.

Hephzibah centers on Brandt-Schulman’s spiritual journey through illness, family loss, displacement and professional change. The book’s title is drawn from a biblical reference in Isaiah and reflects a spiritual name the author associates with restoration and divine purpose. Through a series of first-hand accounts, the author recounts experiences that include serious medical diagnoses, family tragedy and personal setbacks, framing each within a narrative of faith and recovery.

Interwoven with the testimonies are poems and prayers written over several years, many during periods of crisis or transition. The writing maintains a reflective and devotional tone, emphasizing gratitude, endurance and trust in God. The book also includes scriptural references and personal reflections intended to provide spiritual encouragement rather than theological argument.
While deeply personal in origin, Hephzibah is positioned as a narrative record rather than a prescriptive guide. The book documents the author’s lived experiences and spiritual reflections without attempting to generalize or offer formal instruction. Its tone remains observational and reflective, consistent with memoir-style nonfiction.
The release adds to a growing body of independently published works centered on personal testimony and spiritual writing, particularly from authors whose experiences span multiple cultures and countries.

The book was developed over an extended period, with early drafts dating back to 2014 and final revisions completed a decade later. Brandt-Schulman has previously shared elements of her testimony and poetry in church and community settings in the United States, the Dominican Republic and Europe. Hephzibah represents her most comprehensive written work to date, consolidating those experiences into a single volume.
