International SOS has issued a revised advisory urging Thai nationals travelling to Cambodia and Cambodian nationals travelling to Thailand to defer all non-essential travel until at least 7 August 2025 following the escalation of military clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border since 24 July.
The advisory follows reports of heavy artillery fire and airstrikes in multiple border districts, including disputed temple sites. So far, nine Thai civilians have been killed and 14 others injured, while thousands have been evacuated from affected areas in Sisaket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani (Thailand) and Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey (Cambodia). Both countries have withdrawn diplomatic representation and closed all land-border crossings, further intensifying the situation.
While airports in both Thailand and Cambodia remain operational, International SOS warns of possible short-notice airspace closures and flight cancellations and recommends travelers ensure tickets are refundable and evacuation plans are in place. The advisory also calls for deferring all travel within 50 km (30 miles) of the Thailand-Cambodia border, particularly in provinces where military assets are deployed.
For essential travel by Thai and Cambodian nationals, International SOS advises conducting a detailed risk assessment, monitoring official directives from both governments, and avoiding discussions on sensitive topics such as politics and border disputes. Businesses operating in affected regions are urged to activate their corporate crisis management plans, review workforce exposure, and differentiate between essential and non-essential personnel, with relocation measures considered for those with low-risk tolerance.
International SOS emphasizes the importance of staying informed through credible sources, diplomatic channels, and security networks while avoiding unverified information. The security outlook indicates continued military operations, heightened nationalist sentiment, and potential protests in Bangkok and Phnom Penh in the coming days.
