India, 25 January 2024: To mark International Day of Education, International SOS, the world's leading health and security risk services company, underlines the essential role of proactive measures in promoting the health, security and wellbeing of the global education community. This focus is increasingly crucial as educational exchanges and trips resume amidst an increasingly complex geopolitical context and the enduring effects of the global crises.

Despite ongoing challenges, UNESCO and the Institute of International Education reported that in 2023, the total number of globally mobile international students at the tertiary level remained consistent at 6.4 million1. As students participate in educational excursions and exchange programmes, their exposure to diverse environments also brings potential risks. From unexpected illnesses and accidents to security threats and cultural challenges, institutions must be prepared to mitigate these risks and ensure students' wellbeing throughout their journeys.

A heightened need for resilience is also reflected in International SOS' data, which saw a 20.2% increase in security advice and assistance requests and a 29% increase in evacuations and repatriations from scholastic clients.
