Introducing the exclusive micro SUV. As with the hatchback, this micro SUV will have three doors.MG Motor India is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup by creating more bodystyles off the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform, starting with a micro SUV that is set to launch in 2025.

Based on the same platform as the MG Comet electric city car, the micro SUV will also have a three-door layout and a boxy shape, and it is expected to be slightly larger than the Comet, measuring under three metres in length. The SUV will be designed for the Indian market and will be a compact and space-efficient city car, with a focus on tech and interior quality. The new electric compact SUV, with the codename E260, is expected to borrow its appearance from the Yep micro SUV concept shown by MG's sister brand Baojun in 2022.

The concept features a retro styling treatment, similar to the Maruti Jimny or Ford Bronco, which is sure to appeal to the Indian market. It rides higher off the ground than the MG Comet, and features larger wheels and tyres. The powertrain is expected to be a dual-motor setup with over 100hp and all-wheel drive, unlike the Comet, which has a single, rear-mounted motor with 40hp. MG Motor India plans to heavily localise the components of the GSEV platform, including sourcing the battery from Tata Autocomp, to take advantage of localisation. As a result, the micro SUV is expected to be priced above the MG Comet, with an expected ex-showroom price range of Rs 12 lakh-15 lakh. There are currently no direct rivals for this SUV in India, with the closest being the Citroen eC3 crossover. MG aims to differentiate itself from the rest of the market by offering a greater focus on tech and interior quality. This will be at the level of more expensive cars.

In conclusion, the MG Comet EV is set to spawn a compact SUV derivative in 2025, based on the same GSEV platform as the hatchback. The micro SUV will be slightly larger than the Comet, with a three-door layout and a boxy shape, and is designed for the Indian market as a compact and space-efficient city car. With a focus on tech and interior quality, the SUV is expected to be priced above the MG Comet, with an expected ex-showroom price range of Rs 12 lakh-15 lakh. Can there be a successful micro electric SUV in India with a price point less than $3 million? For further updates, keep in touch with Rowthautos by visiting: https://rowthautos.com/model/MG.
