Sports-tech startup Spolto raises INR 5.5 crore in pre-seed funding

Spolto, a sports-tech start-up, has announced a $700,000 (INR 5.5 Cr) pre-seed funding round led by a Swedish angel investor group.

Spolto?s technology would be used to democratise and bridge gaps in the Indian sports ecosystem. The platform will connect people who want to engage in sports with its partners, which for now, includes sports academies and coaches. Through allowing people open access to organised information and letting partners increase online exposure, Spolto aims to create an ecosystem, while providing technology into the hands of people interested in sports.

Founded by Safa Soltani, a Swedish entrepreneur who?s been working in India for the past decade, Spolto?s overarching belief is that everyone who wants access to sports, should have access.

Currently, only 1% of Indians participate in any kind of sport. However, over 40 million people from the Indian middle class are expected to take part in sports and recreational activities by 2025, as per a report by Sportskeeda. Spolto aims to tap into this growing engagement in sports in India.

Gabriel Ghavami, founder and CEO of GO MO Group, a rapidly growing digital marketing agency in Sweden is one of the key investors empowering Spolto to generate easy access for all sports-related information for Indians. Passionate about India-Sweden relations, the entrepreneur now has set his sights on disrupting sports communication.

Spolto has recently launched its platform in Pune and people have already started engaging in sports via its platform.?Atharva Tapare?is one such enthusiast who had a memorable experience. Through Spolto, Atharva joined Nannaware Sports Foundation after a successful free trial.

The platform has also been helpful for sports coaches and academies. Subedar Major Sanjay Sawant, head coach of Sanjay Sawant Basketball Academy in Pune said, ?I am very excited about finding a new way to share knowledge with everyone interested in basketball.?
