The last couple of months haven?t been that great for many markets in India, as the country was subjected to a continuous set of climatic and economic setbacks! As, India recorded its hottest march in 122 years this year, many businesses were impacted by the heatwaves due to loss of work hours. Meanwhile, these heatwaves might have also impacted popular food delivery platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy, as the delivery personnel are finding it difficult to commute in such extreme conditions. In addition to this, the rising inflation, the huge spike in the fuel prices and moreover and no increase in payouts have discouraged the delivery riders from continuing their service. In the timeline of March-April, Swiggy saw a decline of 10% in food delivery riders, adding salt to the wound of already existing cash bleed. But quite parallely, there are food delivery platforms that are actually operating in innovative ways and outperforming the sharks.

A relevant example for this would be the casestudy of a newbie food delivery platform named Yumzy, that is actually becoming a hit among the Guntur foodies. Being a food delivery platform, Yumzy has been rather encouraging its users to pick their order by themselves directly from the restaurants. But, how is this sounding logical, right? It is pure irony that a food delivery platform is indeed asking its users to pick up their order by themselves.

But, Yumzy have claimed their self pick-up feature to be rather beneficial to its users rather than annoying. And having said this, on every self pick-up order, Yumzy is gifting its users with a ton of merits like extra cashback, avoidance of delivery fee and zero extra charges.

?We believe this concept to be quite scalable, as this can be a boon for the users especially in the remote areas, where food delivery is quite challenging?- claims Akash Shah, the CTO at Yumzy. He adds that, with Yumzy, they can order food at the best price along with an extra cashback and no extra charges, and also jump the queue at the restaurants.?

So, Yumzy wishes to give its users the discount privileges of online food ordering along with a takeaway flexibility and experience. But apart from the user benefits, it is arguable that this might have also been a cheeky move by the brand, to stabilise any current or future scenarios of the shortage of delivery drivers.
Though there have been mixed responses from its users, Yumzy believes that the positive ones are a real encouragement to imlement this further in other cities like Vijayawada, Aurangabad, Anantapur and Nagpur. The company plans to implement more customer-oriented initiatives and offers in the future, to help the working youngsters to order at their convenience, and also enjoy maximum savings on every order.

Overall, this strange cum innovative strategy has been working out well for Yumzy, and it needs to be seen if this initiative will perform in the log run. But, by the end of the day, while many popular food delivery giants are bleeding, newbies like Yumzy are hitting a homerun by delivering out of the box.
