Symbiosis Law School, Pune (SLS-P), a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) is organizing a Virtual Book Release and Discussion on?Decoding Child Sexual Abuse - A Socio-Legal Analysis of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012?, authored by Hon?ble Dr. Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi, Former Judge, High Court of Bombay, Distinguished Visiting Judge Scholar in Residence, Symbiosis Law School, Puneand published by Oak Bridge Publishing Pvt. Ltd.on 22nd January, 2022 at 11:00 A.M.

Child sexual abuse is considered as one of the gravest forms of abuse because it involves sexual acts with a minor. Its seriousness stems from the fact that a minor can never provide consent to any form of sexual activity. Furthermore, such abuse can have lasting effects on the physical and mental well-being of a victim. As one of the most stigmatized issues in the society, it is not only basic human rights violation, but also a major public safety concern.

The book aims to cover the different aspects that constitute child sexual abuse and its pervasiveness in the Indian society. Also, it analyses the legal framework and the social context against which the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 operates.It provides a holistic view on the subject and will act as a reference to develop the best practices relating to substantive and procedural laws. It will help the legal fraternity, including the Judges, Practitioners, Academicians, Legal Researchers, Police Officers and Social Activists, NGOs to understand and deliberate on the various dimensions of the subject.

The book shall be released in the august presence of Chief Guest of the event Hon?ble Mr. Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, Judge, Supreme Court of India.The event will be presided over by Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, Hon?ble Chancellor, SIU, Founder & President, Symbiosis.The event will be also be graced by the presence of Dr.Vidya Yeravdekar, Pro Chancellor, SIU, Principal Director, Symbiosis.
The book release will be followed by a prelude to the book given by Dr.Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Jean Monnet Chair Professor in EU Climate Justice Governance, Management and Policy and in-depth conversation about the various aspects of the book with the author.
