Abhinand, a 33-year-old lecturer, turns to crowdfunding platform ImpactGuru.com to raise 4 crores Roche's Risdiplamz treatment

India, 26th July 2021: Chennai based Abhinand, a lecturer, scientist and motivational speaker is suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA is a progressive muscle-weakening condition and has weakened Abhinand?s muscles considerably, limiting his mobility to a wheelchair and preventing him from walking or standing on his own. Abhinand is raising funds through crowdfunding platform ImpactGuru.com as the SMA treatment will cost approx. 4 Crore. In a span of less than 10 days, Abhinand?s ImpactGuru fundraiser page has so far raised Rs. 13.71 lakhs from over 460 donors across the world. The single highest received on the crowdfunding platform is INR 99,000.
Abhinand faces terrible muscle pain in his back and limbs every day and is also suffering from Scoliosis on his back. In Spite of being in unbearable pain, Abhinand has never given up on his dreams and has never let SMA be an obstacle for his lifestyle. Abhinand conducts his lectures and research on a regular basis and teaches over 300 students in one year. He has also co-authored the book ?Systems Biology? in the year 2012 and has done extensive research in the field of Structural Biology and Molecular Modeling. Living his life to the fullest despite the disability and limitation, Abhinand is proving to be a role model to everyone suffering from SMA.
?SMA is weakening me further every day. Making me more and more vulnerable by affecting my breathing, sleeping, and even the way I eat. I require Roche's Risdiplam (Evrysdi) which costs INR 4 crores and I need funds to continue the treatment as I am unable to pay the required amount.? says Abhinand while sharing his journey.
