The thing about boredom is that it can feel inescapable. However, it is a fact of life that you will sometimes get bored and be uninspired to utilize your downtime. The books in the shelves are uninspiring and the TV shows feel like a waste of time. What are you going to do, then?

Boredom is easy to snap out of if you’re willing to try something you haven’t done before. And sometimes, the simplest activities are all it takes. Here are some activities you can try to break free from boredom.

1.) Play a Sport

The best way to snap out of boredom is to break a sweat and get the adrenaline flowing. Whatever takes your fancy is good enough, whether it’s tennis, basketball, boxing, or MMA. Don’t feel like leaving the house? Try an online aerobics or yoga video.

2.) Take a Hike

Walking is a severely underrated way to stay healthy. Unlike taking up a sport, it costs absolutely nothing and can be done solo. Walking not only does wonders for your cardiovascular health, it’s easy on the joints and improves your overall mood.

3.) Clean and Organize

When bored, sometimes you have to let go of the idea that you have to do something fun. Why not think of something that actually needs to be done, like cleaning the bathroom or the fridge? Reorganizing and closet or a drawer is a satisfying way to pass some time and might help you discover some things you forgot you owned.

4.) Listen to a podcast

Listening to podcasts is an excellent way to learn things and improve your listening skills. Why not search the best self help podcasts and see if you can find something that resonates. If the best self help podcasts don’t appeal, try a different podcast. Many people enjoy storytelling podcasts like the This American Life podcast. Of course, the This American Life podcast is just one example of the thousands of podcasts you can choose from to while away the day.

5.) Go Fly a Kite

Kites do have an interesting history, so why not be a part of that by learning to fly one? It’s actually a fun way to exercise while learning a new skill. Feeling extra creative? You can learn how to make a kite first, and then try your hand at flying it!

6.) Create a Playlist

Playlists are a fun way of curating music that fits perfectly around a common theme. You could make a playlist for a road trip, a party, a workout or even for a special person in your life. Better yet, you can collaborate on a playlist with some friends.

7.) Phone a Friend or Family Member

There’s no better way pass the time than by talking to a friend or family member. Schedule a time for a long chat, or take it a step further by video calling.

8.) Take a Dip

Taking a dip in the bathtub is a perfect way to relax and just pass time. Combine this with a podcast or a listen to your new playlist!

9.) Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

Getting nostalgic is a great way to sneak in some laughs (or tears) while reminiscing on the stories behind old photos, letters or videos. This might also be a good time to organize your keepsakes while you’re at it.

10.) Take a Power Nap

At times, you may just be bored because your batteries need to be recharged. A good way to reinvigorate your system is to take a nap. A post-bath nap will be the ultimate relaxation combo and you’ll be drifting off in no time.
