Email marketing is a major and often undervalued component of brand development. Or, at least, it?s undervalued by those who haven?t used it properly. Any good Austin design firm can help you in that regard, as email marketing is the core success tool of anything from a simple blog to a major business venture.
So, while tried-and-true email marketing may not sound like innovation consulting, here are some psychological tricks that may be new to you.
1. Create a fear of missing out
Often abbreviated as FOMO, the fear of missing out is crucial for any effective email marketing campaign. It?s done pretty easily, too ? all you need to do is imply of a scarcity of the product. Make sure it doesn?t sound manufactured; instead, use terms like ?almost sold out?, ?very sought-after product?, ?running out of stock?, etc. If you say that your product is ?discounted today only? the client could be left with the unsatisfying realization that they are being taken advantage of.
2. Create some reciprocity
A simpler way to say this would be ? include some gifts. And, if possible, make them substantial and actually alluring. A free second product with each purchase, a major discount for every first purchase, and so on. Gifts like this may bring your initial margin down a bit but they create life-long customers that will shop from you again and again over the years.
3. Make your client feel special
A good Austin design firm should be able to immediately give you a list of marketing terms for this tip ? ?Exclusive Offer?, ?Members Only?, ?Invitation Only?, ?Just for You?, ?Become a VIP?, ?Exclusively for You?, and so on.
Terms like these make the customer feel special and also give them FOMO ? a 2-in-1!
A good practice here is to make the exclusivity genuine, too ? don?t bombard all of your customers at once. Keep in mind that a lot of your customers will have friends on the same mailing list and can easily feel lied to when they realize that the ?Exclusive Offer? is not exclusive at all. However, if you only send such offers to around 10% of your clients at any given time and repeat this occasionally, the offer will be very effective.
4. Utilize some color psychology
For a bit of true innovation consulting, this tip applies to not only email marketing but to all types of advertising, including print and product design, web design, and so on.
Color psychology is the science of how people perceive colors. For example, blue and its derivations are the most preferred colors in email marketing because they create feelings of safety, trustfulness, and agreement. Green is another good color because it feels bright, playful, and happy.
Naturally, you?d also want your emails? color schemes to reflect your brand colors. And if your brand?s colors aren?t very suitable for email marketing- red being the most obvious example- then you will want to collaborate with a designer to make your business easier to market.
