Every year, in the spring season, flowers are blooming, trees and the grass is greener than ever. However, you are unable to enjoy the nice weather because you have cold-like symptoms. This is commonly known as seasonal allergies, hay fever, or allergic rhinitis. Pollen allergies are caused by inhaling pollen grains from grass, trees and ragweeds.

Pollen is a fine powdery substance produced by flowering plants and trees for plants to fertilize other plants of the same species. It is the leading cause for seasonal allergies around the world. A single birch tree can produce 5 million pollen grains that scatters up to 100 yards from the source.

Pollen allergies increase disproportionately in high risk sensitive groups that have chronic asthmatic and respiratory conditions.

A surefire way to treat pollen allergies is to limit exposure to pollen. But how can you know the pollen count in your ambient surroundings? With pollen data.

Pollen data insights are invaluable to asthma and allergy sufferers as it includes an overall risk assessment of three main types of pollen - tree, grass and ragweed. This data helps quantify and visualize the pollen count in the air.

Pollen data can be easily integrated by businesses into their website, app or tech products. Businesses in digital health, pharma, healthcare can find major value in building innovations with this actionable data.

Ambee, an environmental intelligence company, has built India?s first ever pollen data for hyperlocal locations across the world, upon realizing the data gap in the market. ?We perused through several research papers and journals from credible sources to understand the phenology of pollen seasons.? said Pareekshith Katti, Data Scientist at Ambee.

?Our main challenge with modelling pollen data is the lack of source data to train and validate against. We collected as much data as possible from on ground stations with supporting data on weather, vegetation, and seasonality.? he added.

On December 12th, Ambee launched a new version of their pollen data. This version will cover the North American region. Ambee chose to extend their coverage to include the United States as they are the prime sufferers of seasonal pollen allergies.

Ambee?s pollen data is hyperlocal down to 5km2 data resolution with actionable real time insights. Their data offerings include application programming interfaces (API) for air quality, pollen, soil and more.

Ambee aims at launching their weather data in the near future. Stay tuned for the updates!
