Amity Law School, Amity University Haryana organized a two days conference on Criminal Justice System: National and International Perspectives on 8th & 9th Nov, 2019 in its campus today. Prof Dr Upendra Baxi, Mr Sudhir Chowdhary, Former DGP, Haryana, Maj. Rajneesh Bansal, Add. District & Sessions Judge, Ambala, Haryana, Brig. Janesh Kumar Khera (Retd.), Advocate, Punjab & Haryana High Court inaugurated the Conference ceremony along with Prof (Dr) P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor Maj Gen B S Suhag, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Padmakali Banerjee, Amity University Haryana.

Criminal Justice System of any Country is the basis of establishing peace and tranquility. Criminal Justice is one of the critical areas of society where the legal system is tested on a continuous basis for preservation of peace and security in society on the one hand, and prevention of human dignity of both victims of crime and person accused of it, on the other. The term ‘Criminal Justice System’ is used to describe laws, procedures, professionals, authorities and institutions that apply to witnesses and victims/survivors, and to those alleged as, accused of, or recognized as having committed a criminal offence, whether adults or children. It comprises of institutions, policies and practices with the goal of maintaining social control and deterring crime through restrictions and reintegration.

An effective Criminal Justice System is a key aspect of Rule of Law, as it constitutes the conventional mechanism to redress grievances and bring action against individuals for offences against society. Effective Criminal Justice Systems can investigate and adjudicate criminal offences successfully and in a timely manner, through a system that is impartial and nondiscriminatory, and is free of corruption and improper government influence, all the while ensuring that the rights of both victims and the accused are effectively protected.

The Conference thus endeavors to provide an interdisciplinary platform to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and prospective solutions that can be adopted.

The conference is divided into four technical themes - Theme 1: Criminal Justice Administration Theme 2: Reforms in Criminal Law on the Touchstone of Constitutional Provisions, Theme 3: Human rights in context of Criminal Justice and Theme 4: Efficacy of Criminal Justice System to Curb Corporate Crimes.

In his inaugural speech Prof Upendra Baxi while speaking about the Human Rights, he said he has coined a term Huper Rights which gender neutral, human has man and person has son.’
There is no perfect criminal justice system in any country. As law students your task is to work towards creating a good system. There should be concern for poor and then only criminal justice system can improve, Prof Baxi added.

While addressing the delegates and participants Prof (Dr.) P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana, ‘We should follow zero tolerance policy against crimes. We need to be serious and treat those people who are crippling our society and damaging our environment as criminals also.’

Prof Padmakali Banerjee, Pro Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana congratulated the organizing team for thinking of such a relevant topic and sub themes.

Maj Gen P K Sharma (Retd), Director, ALS informed about the aim and importance of holding this conference by the Law School.

Maj Gen B S Suhag, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Padmakali Banerjee, Pro Vice Chancellor, Maj Gen G S Bal (Retd), Pranshul Pathak, Atul Jain, Monica Yadav, Neha Mishra, Dr Ajay Bhatt were also present with faculty, staff and students.
