Amity University Gurugram with the help of Haryana Forest Department organized a tree plantation drive

In the present age of industrialization and unregulated urbanization, the Aravali ranges are facing deforestation and degradation. It is a fact that Aravalis have played an important role in sustaining the socio-economic needs of the urban and rural settlements in its vicinity. However, present scenario of devastation is transforming these ranges to become barren in near future. To mollify the harsh situation of Aravlis, Amity University Gurugram with the help of Haryana Forest Department organized a tree plantation drive on11th September, 2019.

Five hundred and fifty saplings of Native species including Neem, Peepal, Bargad, Jamun, Shisham, Bael Pathar etc. were planted. Students and Faculty of Amity School of Architecture and Planning along with Members of Ami-Green Club (Eco-Preservation club of Amity University Gurugram) and Students undergoing the UG Military Training Camp devotedly planted trees at AUG campus.

The objective of the eco-drive was to sensitize the students, faculty and staff towards the significance of tree plantation as well asadding native tree species to the existing rich flora of the Campus.The event was undertaken witha mindful initiative of Ms. Kumud Dhanwantri, Assistant Professor of Amity School of Architecture and Planningwho gave a thoughtful tag line to this event, ?Come and Plant Your Lifeline and Be an Eco-Guardian?.

Dr Ila Gupta, Director, Amity School of Architecture and Planning at the plantation drive said, ?Aravali ranges were thriving once, but at present struggling to save their indigenous flora and fauna. This initiative for planting native species will surly enhance the local ecology in this region.?

The Forest Range Officer, Haryana Forest Department was felicitated by Amity University for this initiative. Maj Gen B S Suhag (Retd) Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr. Padmakali Banerjee Pro Vice Chancellor, Maj Gen G S Bal (Retd) DSW, Dr. Ila Gupta, Director ASAP, Dr. Pallavi Sharma, ASAP and Dr. Vivek Balyan, Assistant Director HR graced the event and motivated students.Amity University will be further collaborating with the Haryana Forest department for such kind of Plantation drives in future for preserving the natural ecosystem of the Aravlis.
