The Convocation Ceremony of the Batch of 2017-18 was hosted on I?IT Campus on 15th February 2019. The Chief Guest at the ceremony was Mr. Prakash Iyer, who is an acclaimed best-selling author, motivational speaker, and leadership coach.
The ceremony began with the march-past of the graduating students. This was followed by the lighting of the I?IT Vidya Jyoti once everybody settled down in the Mohini Chhabria Convention Centre. Prof. Dr. Vaishali Patil, Principal, I?IT, welcomed the dignitaries, guests, parents and graduating students. She congratulated the students who were stepping into the next phase of their life and wished them success.

Mrs Aruna M Katara, President of Hope Foundation and Research Centre welcomed the Chief Guest and expressed her appreciation to Mr. Iyer for having taken the time to be part of this momentous event at I?IT. While congratulating the graduates, she shared with them some thoughts on how to conduct oneself in the world. She advised the students to always remember their struggles and share their achievements with all those who have nurtured them and help them become who they are today. Aruna Katara also spoke about the importance of finding one?s Passion Quotient which is what will define their accomplishments in life.

In his address, Mr. Prakash Iyer spoke about the five important lessons in life that he learnt from his driver ?Karunan?. The FIRST lesson was to understand that the Degree that the students held was only a license to step forward. It did not make them a skilled professional; which requires many many hours of hard work and perseverance. The SECOND lesson was to open one?s eyes and face the real world as at this stage of their lives, the graduating students would not have had real exposure to the professional world. The THIRD lesson was to step up and get their hands dirty. Besides the regular jobs, one should be eager to learn more about honing skills that will enhance his/her professional capabilities. The FOURTH lesson was to not focus the salary got; but on learning and enjoying the job. When one learns more, one becomes a better professional. The FIFTH lesson was to pay attention to the job at hand and not spend time dreaming. Dreams are good only if one works towards achieving them. He concluded his talk by urging the youngsters to remember two important points. The first is to not do anything wrong and get into trouble and the second one is to not waste time competing with each other; rather collaborate and become a team player.

The felicitation of the Academic Toppers of each Department was followed by the ceremony where each student came forward and received his/her degree. The valedictory speakers were Sahana B G from the Department of Computer Engineering, Amol Patil from the Department of IT and Asmita Jha from the Department of Electronics & Telecommunication.

The event ended with the National Anthem being sung followed by the procession retreating.
