Outstation Taxi operators expect rise in business as Railways hike fare

New Delhi, Nov 8: Outstation taxi operators in southern zone and northern zone including Delhi NCR expect upsurge in business as Indian Railway has increased the fare of 48 mail and express trains by upgrading them to ?superfast?.
Taxi operators are positive over increase in business as the new levy has been brought in just ahead of the winter season when all north-bound trains will be running late by several hours due to foggy weather.
?I came to know that the fares of 48 express and mail trains have been increased and according to the new time table released on November 1, these trains have been upgraded to 'superfast' trains. But this is not a guarantee that the trains will run on time. Naturally, more passengers with switch to taxis especially for outstation trips,? says Jaiveer Tomar, proprietor, Aone Trips, top car rental service provider in Delhi.
He adds, ?Moreover, no added facilities are being offered to passengers travelling on these trains. Why anybody would go for trains in winter season when that already run rate? There is high possibility that outstation business will see a rise.?
No extra passenger amenities have been provided in trains converted to the superfast level till now. But travelers will have to spend more as superfast charges.
According to data as many as 129 superfast trains were delayed in July, 145 in August and 183 in September for one hour to three hours. Moreover, 31 superfast trains were behind schedule by more than three hours in July and 37 in August.
?Train delays are prevalent. They run late ranging between one hour and 15 hours or more in many cases due to various reasons, naturally outstation taxi operators will gain benefit,? says Om Praksh, owner Green Taxi services, operating from Kolkata.
Meanwhile, various taxi service operators are in a mood to increase fleet size in the winters. They have already started hiring drivers who are experts in driving in foggy climate.
