"La La Land" Actor/Guitarist/Educator Receives Two Awards

The Watts Action Council and the Buddy Montgomery foundation bestowed honors on Jazz Guitarist and Educator Jacques Lesure. Lesure made an appearance in the 2016 film "La La Land".

Los Angeles ? Actor, Guitarist and Educator Jacques Lesure receives the Buddy Montgomery And Charles Mingus Awards. The Watts Towers Community Action Council presented Mr. Jacques Lesure with their Charles Mingus Award for Jazz musician of the year.

?The Watts Towers Community Action Council was created in 1985 as an outreach body of the community to develop the Cultural Crescent Project. The Council is an integral support organization that helps to promote and support activities of the Watts Towers Arts Center, the Charles Mingus Youth Arts Center and the surrounding community. The Council provides leadership and recognizes individuals for their achievements in the arts and community advocacy through the presentation of the Charles Mingus Award at the Watts Towers Day of the Drum Festival and the Simon Rodia Watts Towers Jazz Festival each year.?

In addition to the Mingus award, Lesure was presented with the very prestigious Buddy Montgomery Legacy Foundation?s ?Most Influential Jazz Guitarist? award on September 16, 2017.

?The Buddy Montgomery Jazz Legacy Project was created to regenerate Buddy's objective to promote jazz as a musical art form and acknowledge those whose creative expression represent this unique style of music. Additionally, [the project exists] to help inspire young music students to continue developing their talent and individual creativity. The Buddy Montgomery Jazz Legacy Awards: Presenting an annual awards event to recognize jazz artists for their musical contribution to the genre and for earning their place in the legacy of jazz music.?

?I am so honored to have received [the] award today from the WTCAC. Words simply cannot express my sincere gratitude for the prestigious Buddy Montgomery award. Each of these programs are a living testament to two very influential and historically important individuals in our music? said Lesure, who is also the CEO of ?Now Dig This? - an advocacy program that works with school systems worldwide to make quality music education accessible and relevant ? despite program divestiture by public funding.

Jacques Lesure is on the WJ3 Records label and has released his third album on that imprint titled ?For The Love Of You?. In 2016, he had an appearance in the award-winning movie ?La La Land, which received critical acclaim as well as seven Golden Globe awards and six Oscars.
