5G is attaining great interest as the next generation of mobile network technology; however, the main differentiating factor of 5G from 3G and 4G is its ability to address a range of new business cases across different vertical industries.

Operators are overly optimistic that they would be enabling new capabilities and generating multiple new revenue streams. At the same time, operators also face big risk of losing their control in the value chain. If that happens, their investments will once again be not justified similar to their investments in 3G and 4G network technologies. There are very high chances of big players gaining more control over value chain than operators. The report advises operators to decode their 5G objectives before making any investment and deciding any path towards 5G.
?Operators must visualise their 5G revenue sources and related applications now before investing in 5G, and deciding their network architecture,? said David Brown, Senior Consultant, ResearchICA.

Following are the other key finding from the report:-
1. 5G subscriber base is projected to cross 1.5 billion mark in 2025.
2. Apart from consumer use cases, 5G will be a key driving force for exclusive and wide range application of mobile technology across a broad range of industry verticals.
3. Industrial IoT and automation is going to be the prime drivers of 5G networks in the first 5 years of commercialisation.
4. 5G-enabled industry digitalisation revenues for ICT players is projected to be worth US$2 trillion by 2025.
5. Early 5G networks will be launched in 2018 in Specific Asian countries and the USA; however, commercial 5G networks will be widely available in 2020. USA, Japan, China and South Korea will emerge as the most advanced 5G markets in the next 10 years.
6. From 2020 onwards the migration from 4G to 5G is expected to be fast with widespread launches in European markets.
