Soccer Team Helps Others with Douglas Duroste French

Douglas Duroste French is proud to announce that his amateur soccer team has completed over 200 combined hours of volunteer community service. The team of eight players competes in a six-on-six soccer league and has been together for 4 years. Douglas Duroste French first presented the idea of doing community to his teammates last year.

When asked what motivated him to ask his teammates if they would volunteer, Douglas Duroste French said, "I have always been someone who tries to help out in the community. I thought it would be great if we could do something to help out as a team so I just went ahead and asked." The team was very supportive and pledged to do as much as they could.

Douglas Duroste French's soccer team decided to volunteer at the local soup kitchen and shelter in addition to helping out at local nursing homes. French knew that these organizations frequently needed help. The help that he and his team provide helps both organizations immensely. The residents of the nursing home are very grateful to have eight young people to talk with and listen to. Occasionally, the team will provide instructional courses for the nursing home residents in exercise or computers. The soup kitchen and shelter appreciates the extra hands they have when demand is high, especially around the holidays. Having people from around the community shows to those in need that others do care about them. It's an important message for people that are currently having a rough time.

Douglas Duroste French is very happy he is able to share his love of service with his team. "It can be hard to motivate people to help out in their community; we're all very busy people. But I think having a close connection with these guys made it much easier to get them into volunteering," stated French.

Douglas Duroste French works in construction for a green building company in Portland, OR. He enjoys soccer, biking, camping, and music in his free time. Staying active is very important to him. He can be reached at (888) 675-1245 for questions or information.
