It is very likely that you are interested in Invisalign because you know someone who has been through the process, but in case you are not sure what to expect here is a brief explanation as to what is likely to happen. Full understanding will take away the fears and make the treatment more pleasant for yourself and the treatment provider.

Stage 1 - Discussing Invisalign

Once you have decided where you are going to go in order to have this treatment you will need to arrange a consultation. There is going to be a lot of time spent with this practitioner so you need to make sure that you have selected the correct one.

As not all dentists will be used to working with Invisalign you need to make sure that the correct training has been carried out and that they are capable of deciding what is best for you. They need to be sure that they can give you the support you may need.

When you are in the consultation the whole focus should be on you and the treatment you are going to receive. It could be that you are not really suitable for this treatment and this should be made clear at the start. A fully trained practitioner will be able to work this out early on and will not proceed with the consultation. If this happens don’t go to another dentist as a Invisalign qualified one will give you the same answer. If you have taken the self- assessment test as recommended you should be expecting this if there are any issues.

Stage 2 - Starting Off

Firstly there will need to be all the contours of your mouth identified and this will be found as a result of impressions and X-Rays. This will allow a 3D digital image to be made and it is from this that issues such as the way your teeth move will be determined. If you are really interested your dentist should be able to show you how your teeth will look at each stage.

Stage 3 - Your Custom Made Aligners

Now that all the information has been collected it is possible to make and fit the clear aligners. They are made from BPA free plastic and will be much kinder to your mouth than the normal metal braces will. A great advantage is that they can be removed when you eat so as they will be easy to clean. Gently over the weeks your teeth will begin to move to the position they are meant to be in and even better is the fact they will hardly be noticeable.

Stage 4 - The Final Process

Every couple of weeks’ new aligners will be used and you will need to visit the dentist every six weeks. With each change you will be able to see how much better your teeth look. If things go to plan it is likely that it will be a year before the entire process is completed. Even though they will be in your mouth for up to 22 hours a day you will hardly know they are there.
