Integrella, a leading UK business integration and middleware consultancy, is pleased to announce its recent signing with West Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust (The Trust) to provide fully managed integration services for all of its data sharing needs.

London — May 25, 2012 — Utilising InterSystems Ensemble, the recognised UK market leader in Healthcare-based middleware technology, Integrella has already migrated several of the Trust's main interfaces onto InterSystems Ensemble, and the management of its middleware solution is now in full force.

Given the critical nature of Healthcare data, and a trust’s need to be able to access and process sensitive information for both medical and billing purposes, Integrella’s role in migrating The Trust’s data management system onto InterSystems Ensemble, as well as overseeing its data sharing processes, has already allowed the Trust to have full visibility of their data, reduced dependency on 3rd party vendors, and a fully managed service with no in house skills needed on the part of the Trust, with Integrella acting as their de facto middleware department.

Integrella is also offering The Trust a fixed price list for interfaces, leading to lower costs with improved service and benefits.

After an initial process review conducted by Integrella, it became clear that the Trust was highly reliant on point-to-point interfaces hosted by multiple software vendors linking directly to each other vendor. This approach was creating unnecessary complexity, increased cost of support and maintenance, increased risk of failure, and an overreliance on 3rd parties to make changes. The old interfaces also not provide the Trust with any clear visibility of their data, and there was a lack of information pertaining to systems and interfaces at the Trust, which leads to a lot of confusion when support issues arise or when dealing with vendors.

The lack of streamlined data access and support posed an inherent risk for The Trust: many of the point-to-point interfaces are mission critical in nature, and a loss of service of an interface could have resulted in a serious degrade in patient care and increase in administrative expense. Amongst other issues, such an outage can lead to hospital staff having to switch to paper records to admit and assign patients to departments, manually fill out test labels and log test results by hand, all of which could lead to a degradation in data quality and human error.

Integrella’s introduction of an integration engine, an operational dashboard for monitoring the health of the integration engine, and an enterprise solution architecture that centralises support into one helpdesk will give the Trust increased agility to change and reduce dependence on third party system vendors.
