Austin, TX, Monday, April 30, 2012 -- The densely populated Haitian capital of Port-Au-Prince is home to an estimated 3 million people. Most Americans remember the tragic magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit the city in January 2010. The disaster flattened schools filled full of students and offices packed with employees. The result was an estimated 300,000 deaths and at least 1.5 million residents were left homeless.
Even after over two years of efforts, there remains an enormous humanitarian crisis for relief organizations to overcome. Many of theforeign non-governmental organizations have failed to be effective due to bureaucracy and donor demands, leaving a need for more assistance. The void, more often than not, is being filled by small independent groups with an extreme desire to help fellow human beings.
By far, the most effected demographic in need of assistance is children that have been left orphaned and homeless. Northland Dental Studio, afamily dentistry practice, has made a commitment to do what they can to bring aid to Haiti for these affected children. In conjunction with The Nehemiah Foundation of Vancouver, Northland Dental is compiling supplies to help relocate at risk children. The Santo Port-Au-Prince Orphanage Project represents a long term investment in the orphaned street children of the city, and seeks to provide these kids a safe home to avoid exploitation.
Although the project is currently underway, there is still great need for donations. The Northland Dental Studio has successfully collected and shipped much needed dental supplies including toothbrushes, and sterile medical equipment. This alone is not enough. Northland Dental Studio is currently accepting donations and contributions to help provide dental services to these at-risk orphans. They are asking you bring your dental suppliesand financial contributions by their office to be included in the next shipment to Haiti.
We have found a solution for these forgotten children to give them a hope and a future. They do not have to be victims of human trafficking and exploitation. You can be a voice for the voiceless. All contributions are important, no matter how small.
