Gary Barbera and Gene Barbera Honor David L. Cohen

Hyatt at the Bellevue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - April 30th, 2012 Gary and Gene Barbera were amongst the dignitaries attending the Gala in honor of Comcast Corporation Executive Vice president, David L. Cohen at the Hyatt at the Bellevue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Grand Ballroom was in full attendance as Gary Barbera and Gene Barbera spoke with several Philadelphia natives about David L. Cohen’s honorary Gala. The “Man Behind the Scenes” Award Honoree, David L. Cohen was in high spirits.

The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce in Philadelphia conducted the event. David L. Cohen received the 2011 William Penn Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a business executive in Greater Philadelphia. The award, which has been given annually since 1949, recognizes an individual for his/her outstanding contributions toward the betterment of the region, professional accomplishments, and commitment to charity as well as to the community.



Years ago, David L. Cohen was the Deputy Mayor of Philadelphia. Gary Barbera met the aspiring executive then, maintaining a working relationship that consisted of the creation of the Philadelphia Cares Program, good works projects, and numerous event oriented programs to aid the community. John K. Bingswanger, chairman of the event, had built a great working relationship with automotive leader, Gene Barbera, who was the owner of an auto detailing shop known as “The Last Detail”. John was a frequent visitor to Gene’s shop and both men were happy to congratulate each other during the Gala.

Bob Brady, U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 1st congressional district was also in attendance. Bob Brady and Gary Barbera worked together on the auto task force with Ron Bloom during the GM and Chrysler bankruptcies. “It was a rugh time, but we maintained a great working relationship,” says Gary Barbera. Philadelphia Mayor, Michael Nutter, was also in attendance, reflecting with Gary Barbera about their days in Roxborough.
