Dresden, Germany, April 19, 2012 -- An innovative sample preparation system that maximizes DNA-yield extracted from diverse biological material is now offered by Biotype Diagnostic to all molecular biological laboratories. Sample type i-sep® SQ allows sample carriage, samplelysis and quantitative separation of substrate and DNA-lysate in a single tube assembly. Since no extra manual transfer of substrate or additional pipetting steps are required the risk of cross contamination, sample losses and transposition events is minimized. Even with tissue samples containing a high level of moisture, aerosol formation does not occur due to the special assembly design. These features of an accurate and reliable sample preparation technology were consequently confirmed by CE-certification of In-Vitro-Diagnostics (IVD). As such, it can be easily implemented into everyone’s lab-routine. Moreover, for adequate add-on DNA-processing and to follow guidelines for quality assurance these devices are ethyleneoxide sterilized.

Scientific evaluation studies demonstrated the performance and potential as IVD which dramatically streamlines the manual portion of the sample preparation process.

The secure lid sealing and the small evaporation rates found in vapour tightness tests (< 1% at 56°C, 1h) confirm the suitability for incubations at higher temperatures and over longer periods too. The thermal stability of the membrane (up to 95°C, 1h) adds even more flexibility to the lysis conditions for a huge diversity of specimens. Separation of substrate and lysate is performed quantitatively with a DNA-recovery rate of almost 100%. Consequently, even in long lasting incubations with high temperatures the total amount of DNA released during lysis can be isolated and used in the downstream work flow without loss.

Clinics, forensic labs, foodstuff inspection or veterinary medicine, they all face the challenge to make the most out of nothing. Often only small amounts of sample are available to generate a solid diagnosis, a reliable DNA-profile, or a proof for pathogens or contaminations, respectively. Sample type i-sep® systems were especially developed to maximize DNA-yield in particle-free lysates even with poor amounts of specimen. The usability of the all-purpose system ranges from sample-carriage and DNA extraction to the storage of either sample or DNA-lysate.
