16th June 2017, Geneva

Guided by the purpose and principles of the Charter of the United Nations to end child, early and forced marriage, Link Women in The Arts (a collaboration between Linkarte and WO5C promoting women in the field of Arts) organized a cello performance for a public side event at the Palais Des Nations. This performance was inspired from the Movie ?Tall as the Baobab Tree?.

With the aim to illustrate issues around child marriage with sound and visuals, OHCHR and the Commonwealth embraced LWA?s initiative to bring awareness on this topic through music and visual art. At the end of El?onore Begueria?s cello performance which was combined with a short video of the movie, a participant from Sierra Leone recommended human right activities around the world to watch the movie ?Tall as the Baobab Tree?. This movie showcased how marriage at a tender age controverts a child's right to education, a problem deeply rooted in some cultures.
