Former Broadview Academy, which was a Seventh-day Adventist high school located in La Fox (Illinois, USA), might reportedly become Hindu spiritual center.
According to reports, Mata Amritanandamayi Center is asking for a special use permit from Kane County to convert this school into a site for worship, charity and education. Retreats might also be held here and perhaps in future a Mata Amritanandamayi University might be established. This campus includes about 18 buildings spread over 102 acres besides farmland of 40 acres.
Meanwhile, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, applauded efforts to launch a spiritual center in this part of Illinois.
Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, philosophy, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this center would focus in this direction. Zed stressed that instead of running after materialism; we should focus on inner search and realization of Self and work towards achieving moksh (liberation), which was the goal of Hinduism.
Hindu guru Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, 58, popularly known as Amma and commonly referred as “The Hugging Saint”, leads this organization headquartered in Amritapuri (Kerala, India), and her sole mission is stated as “to love and serve one and all”. “By realizing our own Self we become full, with nothing more to gain in life”, she points out. Her centers are spread throughout the world, and in USA, these are located in California, Maryland, New Mexico, Michigan and Arkansas in addition to over 80 satsang groups to conduct spiritual activities.
La Fox, in Kane County, was established around 1859.
