Mumbai,A delegation from the US $ 7.1 billion Mahindra Group, one of Indias leading business houses, recently engaged with the media in Sri Lanka. The delegation, which was led by Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Anand Mahindra, also met President, Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Mahindra has already established a base for itself in Sri Lanka where it has been selling its range of tractors and utility vehicles for over a decade. The Group now plans to further consolidate its presence by foraying into the hospitality and finance sectors.
Mahindras Automotive Sector has sold over 4,000 vehicles in Sri Lanka since its market entry. In fact, we are the market leader in the plus one tonne pick up category. Mahindra vehicles like the Bolero and Scorpio SUVs, the Alfa 3 Wheeler, Pick Ups and the GiO have acquired a fan following on the emerald isle, as has the companys famous red tractor. Over the years, Sri Lankans have come to appreciate the tough and rugged nature and go anywhere capability of Mahindras products.
Now that peace has returned to the country, Mahindra has taken a conscious decision to further expand its Sri Lankan footprint. Enthused by its success in automobiles and tractors, the company now plans to foray into new sectors such as hospitality and finance. As a diversified federation of companies with a presence in several industries, we see immense opportunities for investment in the country. The company has begun this effort by extending its presence to the North and East areas of the country.
