JIMS organizes International Conference on Service Sector and Inclusive Growth

New Delhi, February 11, 2012: Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS) Group of Institutions, an institute of excellence in the field of management studies and technical education, organized an International Conference on ?Service Led Inclusive Growth: To be or not to be?? today.

Present on the occasion were chief guests Mr. Ajay Chagti, Addl. Secretary (Home), Delhi Government; and Mr. V. K. S. Chauhan, Addl. Secretary (Vigilance), Delhi Government along with Dr J K Goyal, Director, JIMS and Dr. Madan Mohan, Dean, PGDM, JIMS.

In the morning session, a panel discussion on ?Service led inclusive growth, a maze with devious routes and uncertain end or a path that would yield the promise of overall development?? was conducted.

Prof. O. P. Chopra, Ex-Dean, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) was the moderator for the panel discussion.

Eminent speakers including Mr. Ajay Sahai, Director General & CEO, Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO); Mr. Rajeev Gupta, Council Member, European Business Group and Managing Director, Resource Development International (I) (P) Ltd.; Mr. Rajesh Bansal, Assistant Director General, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI); and Ms. Sruti Shankar, Asst. General Manager, Reserve Bank of India also actively participated in the discussion and shared their invaluable thoughts on the topic.

Multiple technical sessions were organized on issues such as Financial Inclusion: Perspectives; Infrastructure: Linkages to Development; and Service Led Growth: Promises and Perils. The sessions were chaired by Mr. Satyanaryana, Senior Manager, HCL Technologies; Mr. Abu Osama, Consultant, UNDP; Dr. M S Chaudhury, Ex. Director, MSI; and Prof. A S Khullar, Professor and Senior Consultant, Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. J.K. Goyal, Director, JIMS said, ?JIMS takes pride in organizing this international conference on the role of service sector in inclusive growth. In India, service sector accounts for 62 per cent of GDP and is currently the fastest-growing sector of the economy, growing at 9 per cent per annum sine the mid-1990s. This sector has also proved its capacity to make a decisive impact on the quality of life of the masses. Today, we had a very brainstorming session on the topic. The experiences shared by the experts here at this platform are bound to help our students in understanding how Indian service sector can contribute to the employment trends which can trigger inclusive growth.?

The conference was held at PHD House, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi. It was well attended by corporate, academicians, economists, research scholars and management students of JIMS.
