Documentary Filmmaker Launches Kickstarter Campaign To Reach The International Space Station

Portland, OR - Jeff Vangorder, a documentary filmmaker and US Navy Veteran, this week officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for garnering widespread support and financial backing for ?Average Joe?s Journey: To BOLDLY go to the International Space Station.? Average Joe?s Journey is a project which aims to document an inspirational and motivational film about my journey to fulfill one man?s dream in hopes that it will inspire other to go for their dreams as well.

To date, the only people who have gone to space are either state sponsored for scientific or educational purposes, or the 7 space tourists who have been fortunate enough to have made the journey at a cost that stretches well into the millions (current cost is Approx. $50,000,000) . Average Joe?s Journey asks: What about the average Joes? How are they able to fulfill their dreams?

?I have had this dream ever since I sat down with my Grandma and watched the original Star trek. I have always wanted to go to Space. Everyone has dream of what they want to do in life and this is the one that has stuck with me since I was a kid?, Said project creator Jeff Vangorder. ?I decided that I wanted to make an inspirational and motivational film about my journey to fulfill my dream and I hope that it will inspire other to go for their dreams as well.?

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. ?Backers? who support a project on Kickstarter get an inside look at the creative process, and help that project come to life. Typically, Backers get to choose from a variety of unique rewards offered by the project creator. ?Rewards? vary from project to project, but often include a copy of what is being produced (CD, DVD, book, etc.) or an experience unique to the project.

All Backers of the Average Joe?s Journey Kickstarter campaign will receive Rewards ranging from a free digital download of the film for a pledge $5 or more, to receiving a personalized DVD box set for the documentary and a have a chance to have a personalized message tweeted from space for a pledge of $250 or more.

The Kickstarter campaign is officially open until September 19, 2016.
