Noida-based mobile handset manufacturer Lava International has rolled out a mobile phone with a key dedicated to the new currency (Rupee) symbol. The company announced this development on the 64th Independence Day. Lava B5 is claimed to be the first such mobile handset to incorporate the Indian Rupee symbol.
That means while you are writing an e-mail or SMS, you don\'t have to type Rs or Rupees; by pressing one key the new Indian currency symbol will appear on the screen,\" PTI quoted S N Rai, co-founder and director, Lava International, as saying.

Mangalore-based Foradian Technologies was the first company to make the new Rupee font available for download, less than two weeks after the new symbol was approved by the Indian Government. Designed by IIT post-graduate D. Udaya Kumar, the new sign is an amalgam of the Devnagiri \'Ra\' and the Roman capital \'R\' without the stem and two parallel lines running at the top.

Computer peripherals maker TVS Electronics has also successfully incorporated the new Rupee symbol in its latest keyboard, the Gold Bharat.
