National Outsider Poetry Slam League Of America Begins Its Journey

Poetry is regarded to be one of the biggest art forms, which is patronized by people, across different age groups. Slam Poetry is a step that was taken to democratize poetry in true sense. Slam Poetry is an incredible initiative, which was first created in 1986. Poetry Slam was created by Marc Smith in the Chicago area. It got exposed to Nuyorican Poet's Cafe in New York, within a few days of its inception only. The Slam Poetry was held in 1990 in San Francisco.

Gradually it became a popular initiative and every town in the country has held the competition. It is an initiative, which is taken up in order to popularize the idea of Slam poetry among all the generations. Audiences in the competition are always encouraged to show their enthusiasm by clapping, snapping finger. National Outsider Poetry Slam league of America has begun its journey in 2016. It is founded in order to spread awareness about written as well as spoken words. On top of that, conventional poetry slam teams are going to get national platform to compete against each other, through this incredible format.

The first session of OPSL would have eight teams, which includes The Sheboygan Syllablists, The Chemung Shamans, The Rancho Cucamonga Kookamungas, The Kokomo Oralists, The Rockford Pages, The Podunk Polemicists, The Paducah Plain Speakers, and The Minooka Meter Maids. Dr. Henry Wolfsburg is the National Outsider Poetry League of America commissioner for this season. He is also working as the editor of The Journal of Outsider Poetry.
