The opening of the new terminal in Medina shows great opportunities and possibilities of public-private partnerships in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia

London, 06 July, 2015: According to recent reports in the public domain, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Tibah Airports Development Company has recently announced the opening of a brand new terminal at Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport (PMIA) in Madinah Al-Munawarah, Saudi Arabia. The authenticity of this news has been confirmed by many English dailies where every minute detail related to the terminal has been published. Trade analysts are however taking this as an excellent possibility of public-private partnership in the kingdom using both Saudi and international companies together.

Being worked upon under GACA, this iconic terminal is said to be spread over a sprawling area of 156,940 square metres and segregated into three floors. The terminal features 16 aircraft stands which are served by passenger boarding bridges and 20 remote apron stands. The project further boasts a much wider and extended runway with over 10 km of taxiways which is well capable of accommodating A380 size aircraft. The taxiways are equipped to link the runway to the terminal building in order to ensure fast and efficient movement of wide body aircraft. Reports further claim that the new terminal is built to the highest international standards and allows an operating capacity of over 8 million passengers per year.

Moreover, the design and architecture of the terminal have been planned in such a way that the terminal can be expanded in Phase 2 to meet the expected future increase in aircraft and passenger traffic. With world class passenger-friendly facilities and amenities, the terminal is being looked upon as major gateway for Hajj and Umrah Pilgrims travelling to the Holy City of Madinah. The project will also include a mosque for 1,000 worshippers, and 20 support buildings completely dedicated to Hajj facilities for Hajj passengers.
